Interest Groups

Art Group

If you have an interest in drawing and painting, come and join our friendly and welcoming art group that meets in the church hall. This is not a class for formal teaching, but sharing and encouraging one another through our collective skills and experiences.

9.30am – 12.30pm every Thursday during the school term.

The session begins with a half hour bible study and prayer time to help set the tone for the morning's work, followed by a chance to chat over morning tea. No one is forced to answer questions or pray aloud.

10:30am to 12:30pm is painting time using a variety of media including drawing, oil painting, acrylic and watercolour. You can also share in other activities including plein air (painting outdoors), group still life painting, special teaching mornings and the support of church missionaries.

Men's Coffee Group

Every Tuesday morning at 10am a number of retired men from St Matts meet together for coffee and a chat in the Cumberland State Forest. We meet at the picnic tables near the Saligna Cafe, where takeaway coffee is available. Newcomers are most welcome.

BCA Nomads

The Bush Church Aid Society of Australia (BCA) - an association within the Anglican Church - has a priority of mission to the isolated, remote urban and rural people of Australia.

BCA Nomads are volunteers who undertake a range of tasks for remote churches as a means of providing support and fellowship when local resources are limited.

St Matthews has been sending teams of Nomads for many years to places such as Wilcannia, Menindee, White Cliffs, Lightning Ridge, Forbes, Broken Hill and Hillston.

Work has mainly focused on building and grounds maintenance and has generally been within the scope of enthusiastic handymen with occasional skilled input.

The journeys are often between two and three weeks long, giving you the opportunity to help others while enjoying some of Australia’s wonderful outback.

The team always attends the local church on Sunday which brings wonderful encouragement to the often small and struggling churches.
