Prayer

Prayer is of first priority at St Matthews and is the first of our core values:

Unrelenting prayer to God

Everything we do at St Matt’s begins in dependent prayer to the God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In 1 Timothy 2:1-6 the apostle Paul makes prayer the first priority of the Christian community and in doing so brings the church into line with Jesus’ own persistent commitment to prayer throughout his earthly life. So we align ourselves with our Lord and his apostle’s priority and give ourselves to persistent, prayerful dependence on God (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

Quarterly Parish Prayer Meetings

On selected days and evenings throughout the year, the whole community of St Matthews gathers in prayer together.

Pre-work prayer meeting

If your time is limited but you would like to start your day in prayer then join our early morning prayer group.

The small, faithful group meets 6.30 – 7am every Tuesday at St Matthews, in the side chapel.

Missionary Prayer meeting

Join us to pray for our link missionaries as they serve God and share the gospel of Jesus locally and across the world.

The group meets 7.30 – 8.30pm on the 1st Wednesday every month in New Line Cottage, 1 New Line Rd (next to the church car park).

Intercessory Prayer Network

If you would like specific personal needs prayed for, a confidential network of prayer warriors at St Matthews are available to pray for you. Contact the senior minister, Steve Abbott on 02 9479 3700 or email to make your request.

Quarterly Prayer Diary

To assist members to pray for the many diverse activities of members and staff, St Matthews provides a quarterly prayer diary detailing upcoming events, staff needs, link missionary requests and specific ministry activities. Collect a copy at church or contact the church office.
