Our actions can become habits. In our series in 2 Corinthians, this sermon considers Paul’s concern for the Corinthians in their preparedness and the management of giving for others. When Zacchaeus met Jesus, he became generous. Jesus in his generosity gave all for us. Our giving is part of our participation in the gospel. Take care how we use money, or money will use us. Speaker: John Batten.

20221106 930AM Jesus An Indescribable Exchange

In our series in 2 Corinthians, this sermon considers “thoughts or actions” in facing challenges in the light of Paul’s words the Corinthian church for their support of the the Jerusalem church. He explains that just as in the wilderness, God provided the manna such that those who gathered more had just enough and those who gathered less had no lack. Paul’s intent is to bring about some balance in the circumstances of the churches bysharing the load. Jesus, though he was rich, yet for our sakes became poor, so that we through his poverty could gain the riches of salvation. Jesus is an indescribable exchange.

23/10/2022 Continuing our series on 2 Corinthians. Jesus is All we need. This sermon first draws attention to the limited capacity of what we can cope with. Focussing on the part of Paul’s words to the Corinthians about being unequally yoked, it considers what it means to be yoked together and what impact that has on our lives, … where we are drawn and where we go. We may be drawn away by people, by our interests, habits and attention. A contemporary example is the communication devices that we use. The speaker then reminds us of Jesus’ words, “Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light, and you shall find rest unto your soul.”

20221016 930 AM RI Jesus is our Absolutely everything

Continuing our series on 2 Corinthians: Jesus is All we need. Being reconciled to God through Jesus, we become involved in the ministry of reconciliation. If our reconciliation is not in vain, this will be evident in the results of our reconciliation. There are stumbling blocks in the way. Where are our hearts turned toward? Our challenge, like Paul’s, is to commend ourselves to others even in the presence of external hardship. The Holy Spirit is shaping us for the ministry we are called to. In the battle, we have weapons of righteousness such as purity, knowledge, forbearance, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love, truthful speech. And we have Jesus!
